Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner: To maintain the longevity and health of your hair extensions, we recommend always using a hydrating shampoo and conditioner. Extensions are prone to drying out and require consistent moisture.
- Opt for sulfate-free, light to medium-weight products to avoid heavy buildup.
- Rinse thoroughly to prevent product buildup and potential matting.
- If your extensions become dry or damaged, switch to a shampoo and conditioner formulated for damaged hair recovery.
Leave-In Conditioner: A leave-in conditioner with multiple benefits is essential for maintaining the integrity of your extensions. We recommend using a product that:
- Nourishes the hair
- Smooths the cuticle to prevent breakage
- Adds moisture
- Provides heat protection
- Detangles
Apply the leave-in conditioner on damp hair before blow-drying or daily on dry hair to refresh and nourish the ends.
Toning Shampoo/Conditioner: Extensions tend to absorb pigment more quickly than natural hair, so special care must be taken when using toning products.
- Apply the toning shampoo or conditioner to your natural hair first, then gently pull it through the extensions toward the end of the application process.
- NEVER apply toning products directly to extensions without thoroughly lathering in your hands first. Uneven application can result in vibrant and uneven absorption.
- After toning, we recommend using a deep conditioner to maintain moisture.
Deep Conditioner: To prevent extensions from drying out, we recommend deep conditioning at least once a month.
- If your extensions feel dry or tangled, you can deep condition up to once a week.
Oil: Applying oil from mid-lengths to ends is essential for keeping your extensions moisturized.
- Avoid oils with silicones, as they can cause buildup and reduce the longevity of the extensions.
- Apply oil daily to maintain hydration and shine.
Sleeping with Extensions: To protect your extensions while sleeping:
- After applying oil to the ends, tie your hair into a low ponytail or loose braid using a gentle hair tie, such as a silk scrunchie.
Swimming and Ocean Maintenance: Exposure to ocean or chlorinated water can severely dry out and damage hair extensions. If you plan to swim, follow these steps to protect your extensions:
- Never leave your hair loose in the water, as this will cause tangling.
- Coat your hair with leave-in conditioner, regular conditioner, or a hair mask before swimming. Then, tie your hair up or braid it to minimize exposure.
- After swimming, shampoo your extensions thoroughly to remove salt or chlorine, followed by a deep conditioner.
- For extensive water activities, such as scuba diving, we recommend removing your extensions as a precaution, as water exposure may still pose risks to the integrity of the extensions.
Additional Hair Care Tips:
- Hold the top of the weft while brushing and avoid brushing the stitching.
- Be sure to rinse and brush thoroughly between the wefts.
- Brush your extensions multiple times a day to prevent tangling.
- Wash your extensions 1-2 times a week. If desired, you can braid or pin them aside to wash only the top of your hair more frequently.
By following these post-care guidelines, you can ensure that your Connected Method® hair extensions remain in excellent condition, allowing you to enjoy their beauty and longevity.
